Dr. Thomas de Maizière, born in 1954, has gained political and executive experience since 1990 in a city-state, in two federal states as State Secretary and State Minister, in the Federal Government as Federal Minister, and as a member of both the State Parliament and the Bundestag. He held responsibility for 28 years in specialist departments and cross-sectional ministries such as the State Chancellery, the Federal Chancellery, the Ministry of Finance, and the Ministry of the Interior. He was involved in the Federalism Commissions I and II as State Minister and later as Federal Minister.
After leaving active politics, he has been involved, among other things, as Chairman of the Deutsche Telekom Foundation and as a board member of the German Protestant Church Congress (Deutscher Evangelischer Kirchentag).
Thomas de Maizière holds a doctorate in law and is an honorary professor of constitutional law at the University of Leipzig. He is married and has three children with his wife, Martina de Maizière.
