Martin Klingst, journalist and author, studied law in Freiburg, Geneva, and Hamburg. He worked for Norddeutscher Rundfunk, Deutsches Allgemeines Sonntagsblatt, and for more than 27 years for the weekly newspaper DIE ZEIT, including as a political commentator, reporter, senior political editor, US correspondent, and correspondent in the Berlin capital office. From 2020 to 2021, he headed the Strategic Communication and Speeches department of the German Federal President. Since 2022, he has been managing various projects for think tanks and foundations and was a fellow at Harvard University. From 2024 to 2025, he headed the office of the “Initiative for an Effective State” based at the Hertie School. Mr. Klingst has been awarded several journalism prizes and published three books: “Menschenrechte” (human rights), “Trumps Amerika. Reise in ein weißes Land” (Trump’s America. Journey to a White Country), and a biography about Guido Goldman, a Harvard professor and founder of the German Marshall Fund: “Guido Goldman. Transatlantic Bridge Builder”
