Carsten joined Hertie School as Development Director in March 2025 and leads the strengthening of the Hertie Schools engagement with its supporters including individuals, companies and foundations. He joined from Frankfurt School of Finance & Management where he held the same position since 2020. Prior he oversaw fundraising at Queen Mary University London after joining from the London School of Economics and Political Sciences. He helps universities to mobilise funds to support research, teaching, facilities and scholarships for students who otherwise would not be able to enjoy the benefits of higher education. At LSE, in addition to raising 20 million pounds sterling, he led the setup of LSE’s Africa Institute together with the academic leadership. Prior to LSE, he worked at the Robert Bosch Foundation overseeing a portfolio of think tank projects. At the Institute for Strategic Dialogue, he was part of the founding team at this think tank start-up.
